Dr. Daniel Catenacci MD began his career as an adult gastrointestinal medical oncologist after earning his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan, completing his residency in internal medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Westwood, California, and completing a fellowship in medical oncology at the University of California, San Francisco. Ultimately, he decided to specialize in treating gastrointestinal cancers as a medical oncologist. He has a Master of Science in Biostatistics and Clinical Investigation from the University of Chicago and extensive experience in laboratory and clinical translational research from his participation in several unique programs throughout his education, including those at the Harvard Institute of Medicine. In addition to his work on gastroesophageal malignancies, he has studied pancreatic, hepatobiliary (liver and bile duct), colorectal, and neuroendocrine tumors in the laboratory and patients.
At the University of Chicago, where Dr. Daniel Catenacci was previously the director of the gastrointestinal oncology department, he saw patients with cancer, conducted basic and clinical research, and taught at all levels (fellows, residents, medical students, undergraduates, and graduates). He made breakthroughs in cancer research that led to the development of novel techniques to treat cancer based on the biological properties of tumors. He also made instruments to measure molecular (genomic and proteomic) variations between persons and within a single person's tumor.
